〔宛先不明〕田中馨治書簡 / A letter from Tanaka Seiji 〔destination unknown〕
田中馨治の書簡。宛先不明。年月日不明。封筒には「要御願」と書かれている。一度人心が離れると対処できない事態になるので尽力しよう。原・田中・犬塚に対して士族らが激怒している。これを単に退けるだけでは、今後の命令を一切聞かなくなる。士族が原・田中・犬塚に恨みを晴らそうとするかもしれない。だから三百年の伝統ある家(鍋島家のことか)の面目を敬ってほしい、という内容である。鍋島直彬宛の書簡の草稿か。佐賀での何らかの事件に関すると思われるが、詳細不明。原忠順との40年来のつきあいとあることから、鍋島直彬と出会って40年目である明治16年頃の書簡か。
A letter from Tanaka Seiji. The addressee is unknown. Its completed date is unknown either. On the envelope, there is a note as "With some requests." Tanaka wrote; As it is tough to recover centripetal force once it is lost, therefore we need to do our best not to lose the force. Some Shizoku (ex-Samurai) are furious against Hara, Tanaka and Inuzuka. If we dismiss objections from them, they will never obey our orders
anymore. It is possible that they will avenge themselves on us. To avoid this worst-case scenario, we need to try to keep the honor of the prestigious family with 300 years of tradition (supposedly, it indicates Nabeshima family.) It is probably a draft of a letter to Nabeshima Naoyoshi. According to its contents, it may be related to some incidents in Saga, but the detail is unknown. As there is a note that Hara Tadayuki and Nabeshima Naoyoshi knew each other for 40 years, it is probably written in around 1883; it was the 40th year when Nabeshima had met Hara.
