八重山島杣山職務帳 / Manual of Yaeyama Forestry Agency
咸豊4年（1854年）筆写。35丁。26.5×19.8cm。蔵元の割り印あり。蔵元の格護本。八重山の山林（杣山）の保護・育成・管理業務を詳細に規定した布達文書。旧来，布達されていた「杣山法式帳」だけでは不十分として，首里王府は新たに本「職務帳」を1740年代に作成し，その後，与世山親方（1768年），翁長親方（1857年）の改訂がなされた。本文書は，与世山親方改訂時のものである。冒頭で，人口増に伴い材木の消費が増大したため，杣山の管理を行うに至った経緯を記し，杣山役人の職務規定，村人の入り会い山（模合い山）の利用規定，家屋・船材などに使用する場合の規定，等を詳細に記述している。王府の八重山での山林政策を知る上で貴重な文書である。(豊見山和行）
A notification announcing the detailed regulations in regards to the protection, cultivation, and management of Yaeyama's forests. Due to the insufficiency of Somayama Hōshikichō published previously, the Shuri Government released a new book named Shokumuchō in 1740; which was later edited by Yoseyama Uēkata (1768) and Onaga Uēkata (1857). This document is the one edited by Yoseyama. The opening paragraphs outline how the increase in wood consumption due to population growth prompted the management of government forests (somayama). It also contains detailed records of the government forest (somayama) officials' employment regulations, other regulations regarding the use of public forests (iriaiyama), housing and ship-building material usage, etc. An important document for understanding the Government's forestry policies in the Yaeyama area.
