明和の津波に関する陳状書 / Report of a Tidal Wave
1件。9丁。12.6×510.2cm。楮紙。明和8（1771）年に大津波来襲。本史料は、八重山島から王府への現状報告と要望書である。前半 が欠如しているが、内容はおよそ8つのことについて述べてある。内容をいくつか取り上げてみるとまず、乾隆36（1771）年に起こった大津波後の八重山 の状況を報告しており、被災後に病気が蔓延し、百姓たちも仕事を怠けるような状態であったのが、検使が派遣されたことで改善され、今では上納も滞りなく行 われていること、次にカラムシと粟生産について、生産量を増加させるために役人を本島に派遣して肥料生産を学ばせたいこと、婚期がおそい百姓が多いので早 めに婚姻を結ばせたいということ、などである。
This historical document is a report on existing circumstances and related requests from Yaeyama Islands to the Shuri Government. The first half had missing parts but the contents can be separated into roughly eight topics. This included a report of the effects of a tidal wave on Yaeyama in 1771, when disease spread and the people were idle from work. However the situation improved after the dispatch of an envoy, and taxes were now being paid without delay. Just to name a few more, there were also notes on the desire to send officials to the mainland to study the production of fertilizers in order to increase the production of ramie and millet; as well as the desire to increase the age for marriage as many villagers chose to marry late.
