1件。4丁。卯年正月。本史料は八重山士族の正妻以外の女性との間で出生した子どもに関する処置をめぐる命令文書である。子どもは「ふくり」以下「やまた」まで17人を数える。女性との関係を示す言葉として、「妾腹」や「脇腹」という言葉が登場する。出生地も石垣島の白保村から新城村、波照間村など八重山各地の地名が散見できる。年齢も4歳から43歳までさまざまである。おそらくこの子どもらは士族が各村に赴任している際に授かったものであろう。命令内容は、この子どもらは百姓身分であるので、諸税を徴収できるように「正男女帳」に記載するようにしなさいというものである。この命令が布達される以前は、百姓として取り扱われていたのではないことが分かる。
This is an order concerning the treatment of illegitimate children of the Yaeyama elites. The children, from Fukuri to Yamata(names), totalled 17. The terms mekakebara and wakibara were used and referred to the women with whom the elites had a relationship with. The places of birth ranged from Shiraho Village on Ishigaki Island, to Aragusuku Village, Hateruma Village and various other places in Yaeyama.The children also ranged from 4 to 43 years of age. These children were probably conceived when the elites went on business trips around the villages. The order recognises them as citizens and orders them to be recorded in the Shounanjochou (record of tax payers) so as to collect taxes. From this we can see that these illegitimate children were not treated as citizens before.
