The Omoro Soshi is the Okinawa’s oldest collection of songs which was recorded, transcribed and compiled by the Shuri Royal Government. It contains the Omoro sung in each area between the 12th and 17th centuries (in 22 volumes). This text is considered to be a reproduction of the Nakayoshi Chōjo book, photographed by Nakamoto Seichi in 1960. This document was considered as the basis for Nakahara’s research into the Omoro, and afterward, his findings were published as the “Kohon Omoro Soshi” (Edited by Nakahara Zenchu, Hokama Shuzen Published by Kadokawa Shoten Publishing Co., Ltd in 1965). The nineteenth volume contains Omoro from Chinen, Sashiki and Gushichan. The twentieth volume contains Omoro from Komesu which is former-Mabuni village and the surrounding areas.
