Description

This is a collection of songs in printed form focusing on the processions of Ryukyu people and onlookers. Inferred from the date 1851, it is believed that it was made the year prior to the time when an envoy of gratitude (senior envoy Prince Tamagawa Chotatsu, vice envoy Nomura Oyakata Chogi, totaling 99 people) for the appointment of Shō Tai, was sent to Edo. Who published or wrote this song book is still unknown. Reprinted version is available in “Edoki Ryukyu mono shiryo shoran” (Honpo shoseki 1981). Temariuta is a kind of children's song or play song to which girls sing along as they bounce temari balls (balls of cotton wound tightly around with threads of many colors.
