鳥島移住始末
本史料は、大正9(1920)年3月に書かれたものである。硫黄鳥島は、過去たびたび噴火を起してきたが、明治36(1903)年4月に噴火が起こり島での居住は不可能と判断され、一部を残して沖縄県久米島に移住することが政府の方針として決定された。噴火当時の島尻区長であった本書の筆者斉藤用之助は、その時の出来事などを『鳥島移住始末』に書き残した。鳥島移住を見ていく上では欠くことのできない一冊である。

Iōtori Island had been in eruption frequently and the eruption occured in April 1903. The government decided it is too dangerous for the inhabitants
to live in Iōtori Island, and relocate them partially to the Kume Island. Saito Yonosuke who was the ward mayor of Shimajiri ward when the eruption
occured, wrote about the occurrences in the book of "Torishima Iju Shimatsu" in March 1920. This is indispensable material to learn about migration
to Torishima.
