解説

明治6(1873)年に大槻文彦によって上梓された上下二巻本の書物。大槻文彦は国語辞典『大言海』の著者として知られ、明治・大正期を代表する国語学者である。日本内外の史書や報告書をもとに琉球の全体像を描こうとしており明治初期の段階の琉球情報をまとめたものと位置づけできる。その内容は、上巻に地誌・気候・地質・物産・国名・史記・系統の項目を載せている。下巻は封貢・国体・人種・政体・歳計・農工・文教・風俗の項目について記載されている。

Description

This is a two-volume book authored by Ōtsuki Fumihiko and published in 1873. Ōtsuki, known as the lexicographer of the Japanese language dictionary "Genkai &quot, is one of the most renowned Japanese language scholars of the Meiji and Taisho eras. Based on historical and other documents collected from in and outside of Japan, Ōtsuki attemptsed to provide a general overview of Ryukyu. This book can be described as a summary of information on Ryukyu from the early Meiji era. As for its content, while vol.I contains information on Ryukyu’s topography, climate, geology, local production, county names, and historical and ancestral records, vol.II contains text on the Imperial Chinese tributary system, national polity, ethnicity, system of government, fiscal statistics, agriculture and industry, education, and customs.
