金瘡一部之書 / Part of a Book Related to Kinsō Medical Treatment

Kinsō refers to the medical treatment for wounds sustained on the battlefield, and surgical treatment for childbirth and such. This book contains the oral and secret teachings of Dr. Yoshimasu, who was a professional in ancient medicine, and is thought to be a part of a book related to kinsō medical treatment. Among the various styles of kinsō treatment, zenkiryū treatment used hakuchōsan—a type of crude drug taken orally—composed of tōki (Japanese angelica root), shakuyaku (Chinese peony), senkyū (cnidium officinale Makino), jiō (Chinese foxglove), ninjin (ginseng), kanzō (Chinese liquorice), daiō (Chinese rhubarb), chimpi (mandarin orange peel), shitan (rosewood), shukusha (Amomum seed), mokkō (costus), jinkō (agarwood), byakushi (Angelica dahurica), and kakkō (patchouli). While hakuchōsan was prescribed for a wide range of symptoms, it disappeared in the Edo period, but it is believed to have developed into treatment in the field of gynecology.
