解説

墨刷り3枚に彩色し、巻子仕立てにしたもの。1832年(天保3年)、16回目の江戸立ちの様子が描かれている。この時の正使は豊見城王子、副使は沢岻親方、第二尚氏王統18代の琉球国王・尚育の襲封を感謝する謝恩使だった。なお、「仲原善忠文庫」には、これと同一の絵柄の刷物(歌川国芳画『琉球人行列附 天保癸辰年』)がある。

Description

This scroll combines three sheets that are printed in sumi ink and colored. It is a depiction of the sixteenth Edo-dachi (Ryukyuan envoy mission to Edo). On this mission, the envoys called shaonshi were sent to show gratitude to the shogunate for the accession of King Shō Iku, the eighteenth king of the Ryukyus. Prince of Tomigusuku was the chief envoy, and Takushi Oyakata served as the deputy envoy. The same picture can be found in the Zenchū Nakahara archives (Kuniyoshi Utagawa print “Procession of the Ryukyuans, 1832”).
