This material is KANAZAWA Shōzaburō’s (1872-1967), a Japanese linguist and scholar, research note. It records his dialects survey during his visit to Okinawa. The second note of this collection is titled Miyako Yaeyama Hōgen Dai-ichi Oite Okinawa-ken Naha Chōsa, and separated into two parts: (Dialects of Miyako Yaeyama; Part 1; Naha, Okinawa Prefecture Survey) and “Dialect of Yaeyama; written in Naha, Okinawa” begins on page 45. The inscription at the colophon page can be read, “Customs of young samurai of Kagoshima; The arbitration between the merchant and woman; I can’t understand the language spoken in Kagoshima nor can I understand the Ryukyuan language; Birds are only found in the Kunigami region (perhaps because of the coral reefs).”
