解説

東條保著、小倉万次郎蔵版。
本書は明治8(1875)年3月に刊行された。序文に「此編ハ臺灣島古今ノ形勢事情ヲ略記シ」とある通り、台湾の地勢・歴史・民族その他についてまとめた地誌である。上巻では地勢や歴史に触れ、中でも明朝以降の異民族の領土となった歴史について叙述している。29頁ころから「牡丹社事件」についても触れている。

Description

This material consists of three books written by TOJO Tamotsu and recognized as OGURA Manjiro collector edition. Volume 1. was issued in March 1875. As TOJO described in the preface, it is a “summary history on Taiwan domestic situation and international state of affairs,” and introduces the regional geography, history, and Taiwanese tribes. Volume 1 touches on its geographical features and history on how Taiwan became part of territories of the Ming dynasty and other ethnic groups.
