[遠江国見附宿 本陣助郷文書 15] 宿之役人御陣内江滞納之儀ニ付御申渡御書付 / A Written Order to the Innkeeper Regarding Overdue Payment (Tōtōmi Province Mitsuke-shuku Honjin Sukegō Document No. 15)
助郷とは大名行列等でそれに要する人馬等が宿場のみで対応できないときに、周辺の村々から半強制的に動員する制度をいう。本文書は旧東海道五十三次のうち、江戸から数えて28番目、京から数えて26番目の宿場である。現在は静岡県磐田市にあった本陣に残された助郷文書で、天保4(1851)年の琉球人に関する助郷文書が含まれる。大名行列や琉球人行列は通過する地域の人々にとっては大きな負担であった。琉球大学附属図書館報『びぶりお』147号(Vol.40、№2）P.5参照。
「遠江国見附 本陣宿助郷文書」の15。嘉永元申(1848)年成立。表紙には「宿之役人御陣内江滞納之儀ニ付 御申渡御書付 御代官 長崎様御役所ゟ御渡候成 嘉永元申年」と記されている。しかし、内容は別で、宿に宿泊する役人より宿の問屋や年寄へ、「腰掛」(江戸幕府の施設の名称。)まで押さえて整えておくように、という申し渡しが書かれている。
In this material, sukegō refers to a system of calling for mandatory volunteers from the surrounding villagers when the shukuba (post station) could not supply its regular service, horses, and labors for any important events, such as daimyō procession. There were 53 points of shukuba built along the Tōkaidō road in the Edo period. This material was discovered at the honjin which was the 28th point from the Edo and the 26th point of shukuba from Kyoto, now is in Iwata city, Shizuoka prefecture. It mentions the Ryukyuan mission in 1851 and alleges daimyō procession and the Ryukyuan missions were too great a burden to bear on the inhabitants when the processions moved through (University of the Ryukyus Library Newsletter Biblio No. 147, vol. 40, no.2, p.5). Tōtōminokuni mitsuke-shuku honjin sukegō, document No. 15 was completed in 1848. Although the inscription on the cover can be summarized as “A written order from the governor of Nagasaki to the innkeeper regarding overdue payments, 1848,” the content is different. It contains an official notice about making reservation for the officials staying in koshikake (name of facility in Edo period) to the agent or toshiyori (facility job title of Edo period).
