御免新版絵入／天保三年来朝／琉球人行列記 / Record of the 1832 Procession of the Ryūkyūans, an Illustrated Edition
江戸立ちは徳川将軍や琉球国王が代替りをしたときに行われ、徳川将軍の襲職を慶賀するための使者を慶賀使、琉球国王の襲封を恩謝するための使者を謝恩使といった。江戸立ちのはじまりは、寛永11(1634)年の尚豊王襲封の謝恩使派遣で、最後は嘉永3(1850)年の尚泰王の襲封を謝恩する派遣であり、計18回行われている。1832(天保3)年は尚育王の襲封を恩謝するための派遣で、正使豊見城王子が薩摩で死去したため普天間親雲上が代役をつとめた。通常、島津氏の参勤交代にあわせて江戸参府をするので、この年は島津斉興の参勤交代の際にとりおこなわれた。
This material depicts the Edo-dachi: the Ryukyuan missions to Edo whenever there was a change of the new Tokugawa shōgun or the Ryukyu King. The envoy missions were appointed to congratulate on the succession to the shōgun were called Keigashi, on the other hand, the Ryukyu was obliged to send Shaonshi to Edo upon the king was alternated. The mission had dispatched eighteen times since 1634, the first Shaonshi was sent for King Shō Hō’s enthronement, and the last Shaonshi departed in 1850 for King Shō Tai. The Edo-dachi in 1832 was sent to express gratitude for King Shō iku’s succession to the Ryukyu Kingdom. In this mission, the senior envoy was Tomigusuku Ōji; however, he died suddenly during the mission staying in Kagoshima. Futenma Pēchin took the place of Tomigusuku Ōji to serve as a substitute senior envoy. This year, SHIMAZU Narioki went to the Edo to perform the clan’s duity of Sankinkōtai.
