解説

『伊勢物語』は在原業平に擬せられる色好みの男の一代記風の物語で、男女の情事を中心に風流な生活を125話にまとめている。本書は後書きによって肖柏本の系統であることが分かる。尚育王の摂政だった浦添王子朝熹の旧蔵と伝える。朝熹は琉歌・和歌の歌人としても知られており、当時『伊勢物語』は歌人の間では必読の歌書だった。本書は沖縄県の有形文化財に指定されている。

Description

Ise Monogatari (The tales of Ise) is a biographical story of a lustful man who was likely modelled on Ariwara no Narihira. It consists of 125 episodes of his elegant life centering around his love affairs with women. According to the information in the colophon, this book belongs to the Shōhaku style manuscript (shōhaku-bon) group. It also notes that this book was owned by Urasoe Ōji (prince) Chōki, who was a prime minister (sessei) for the King Shōiku. He was also known as a Waka and Ryuka poet and Ise Monogatari was a must-read book among poets at the time. This book is designated as a tangible cultural property by Okinawa Prefecture.
