復命書[久米島出張復命書] / A report of inspection tour in Kume Island
明治14(1881)年5月23日付で、十等出仕豊見城盛綱(とみぐすく・せいこう)および三等属渡辺簡が大書記官原忠順に提出した出張報告書の原本である。沖縄県の罫紙。1ページ目に「原」印あり。当時の久米島では、「日清間に戦端が開かれた」「県令と大書記官は上京し、鹿児島県人の某が代理で事務をつかさどっている」「本県人は残らず辞職した」「首里分遣隊はすべて撤退した」「久米村に中国人が来着する」といった流言が飛び交っていた。これに対し豊見城らが情報源を糾し、その情報が虚偽であることを各村々に出向いて説諭するまでの経緯が記されている。
It is an original of the report of inspection tour as of May 23rd, 1881. Tomigusuku Seikō and Watanabe Kan who were the government officials submitted this report to Hara Tadayuki, the Senior Executive Secretary. It is written on a ruled paper of Okinawa Prefecture. On the 1st page, there is a stamp of Hara. At that time, some groundless rumors were spread around in Kume island, like "Japan and Qing have commenced hostilities.", "The Prefectural Governor and the Great Secretary have gone to Tokyo and a certain person who came from Kagoshima dose office work on their behalf.", "All government officials who were from Okinawa have resigned en bloc.", "The Shuri Detachment has completely withdrawn" or "Chinese people will come to Kuninda (Kume village)." This report gave an account that Tomigusuku and Watanabe had made the source clear and they had explained the rumors
had not been true in every village of Kume Island.
