琉球紀事 / Accounts of Ryukyu
書写本。安永9(1780)年成立か。内容は、寛文11(1671)年７月来朝の江戸立の使者の名前、使者が携えてきた文書、1709年の琉球国王からの弔文、薩州家蔵の「琉球帰服記」、「海東諸国記」から抜粋した国俗について、琉球人の和歌、「琉球のはやり小歌」として琉歌が収められている。阪巻・宝玲文庫にしかない貴重なものである。蔵書印に「宝玲文庫」「鈴屋文庫」とあるので、本居宣長の蔵書だった本をホーレーが入手したことがわかる。
A handwritten copy, presumably completed in 1780. It includes: a list of Ryukyuan envoys who attended the Edo procession of 1671; documents that the envoys brought from Ryukyu; a letter of condolence sent from the Ryukyu King in 1709; Ryūkyū Kifukuki owned by the Sasshū Family, a branch family of the Shimazu of Satsuma; excerpts concerning Ryukyuan customs from Kaitō Shokokuki; Japanese and Ryukyuan verses made by Ryukyuans. It is a rare book which can be found only in the Hawley Collection. There are two ownership stamps: "Hawley Collection" and "Suzunoya Collection," which reveals that this book was formerly owned by Motoori Norinaga.
