天保三壬辰年・琉球人参府・弐朱吹立御触写 / A copy of a proclamation on metallic currency called nishu and Ryukyuan visit of 1832

A copy of an ofuregaki issued in October, 1832, which concerns the Ryukyuan mission of the same year and the metallic currency called nishu. The editor and completion date are unknown. This is a rare book which can be found only in the Sakamaki/Hawley Collection. An ofuregaki is a written proclamation which announces new laws and ordinances issued by the bakufu or daimyo to the public during the Edo period. This book includes information on some points to note when observing the Ryukyuans, as well as on repairs of streets and bridges, the route that Ryukyuans are planning to take, etc. It also includes information on the exchange rate and the time of issue of the new currency.
