琉球聘使畧 / Brief account of the Ryukyuan envoys

This is a record of the Ryukyuan procession to Edo of 1832. Both the editor and the date when it was written are unknown. This book can be found only in the Sakamaki/Hawley Collection. After the Satsuma invasion of 1609, Ryukyu was obliged to send keigashi, envoys sent to Edo upon the change of a Tokugawa shogun, as well as shaonshi, envoys sent to Edo upon the change of a Ryukyuan king. These missions are called edodate, the Ryukyuan mission/procession to Edo. The mission of 1832 was conducted to express shaon, or special gratitude, with regards to the enthronement of King Shō Iku. This book lists names of the envoys who attended the mission; tools, belongings, and instruments used during the procession; the order of the envoys; tributes; etc. In addition, those names of the Ryukyuan envoys have a reading aid inserted on the side in red ink.
