琉球の史的管見 / Historical Views about Ryūkyū

Written by Mutō Chōhei (1879-1938). Issued on June 1st, 1916. There are stamps of "Keiō gijuku toshokan" and "Hawley bunko"on the first page. The books talks about the importance of leveraging Ryukyu’s trade and diplomatic history along with its geographic circumstances. . It may be an excerpt from an article which the author wrote in a literary magazine Geibun, No.7 and No.10 of volume 7. The author was a scholar of History and Chinese classics, and served as a professor at Hiroshima Higher Normal School. According to the last lines of the book, reading Shidahara Taira’s Nantō enkakushiron made Mutō want to visit Okinawa, and in spring of 1915, under the guidance of Iha Fuyū who had been a director of Okinawa Prefectural Library, and Majikina Ankō, he was able to complete this book. Geibun was started by Mori Ōgai and Ueda Bin in 1902 as a bulletin of a literary society of Kyōto whose origin was College of Letters of Kyōto Imperial University.(Updated on November 4, 2022)
