沖縄風俗図会 / Okinawan customs graphic
雑誌『風俗画報』の臨時増刊号（第117号）。琉球・沖縄の歴史や風土、習俗、方言等をイラストレーション付きで解説している。明治29（1896）年6月28日に東陽堂で発行された『風俗画報』のシリーズものの一つ。同シリーズはわが国最初のグラフ雑誌で、明治22（1889）年～大正5（1916）年まで518冊以上を刊行、近世・近代を代表するグラフィック百科事典と称されている。挿絵を描いた石塚空翠（いしづか・くうすい）、名和永年（なわ・ながとし）は、明治時代の浮世絵師・版画家。『風俗画報』臨時増刊「日清戦争図会」では戦争画を描いた。生没年については、どちらも不詳。(2017年4月25日更新）
A supplementary edition of the magazine Fūzoku gahō (No.117). It includes a description of history, climate, customs and dialects of Ryukyu and Okinawa with illustrations. This is one of the series of Fūzoku gahō special editions, and was issued on June 28th, 1896, by Tōyōdō. This series is the first photographical magazine in Japan, and more than 518 volumes were issued between 1889 and 1916. It has been dubbed a “graphic encyclopedia” representative of the early modern and modern eras. Ishizuka Kūsui and Nawa Nagatoshi who drew illustrations in this issue were Ukiyoe artists and printmakers. They also provided illustrations of military activities for the special edition of Fūzoku gahō “The Sino-Japanese War – A Pictorial” (Nisshin Sensō zue). Their dates of birth and death are unknown.
