琉球女流歌謡集 / Anthology of Songs by Ryūkyūan Women

Written and edited by Serei Kunio (1897-1950). Published in 1937, by Okinawa Shoseki. On the front cover is written in what is believed to be Hawley’s own autograph: "Frank Hawley 1949.," On the table of contents page, there is an ownership stamp: "Hawley bunko." The author, Serei Kunio, was influential to future generations as a poet and a researcher of Ryukyuan classical music. In the preface by the author, he expressed his thanks to Shimabukuro Zempatsu who took charge of the translation of Omoro, and to Iha Fuyū who was a researcher of Omoro. This book contains a collection of ancient songs like Omoro and other verses which were probably composed by Women poets on Okinawa Island, in Yaeyama and in Miyako, selected by the author. 49 pages in total.
