琉球一件(明治十二年五月十日 総理衙門照会) / Ryūkyūan Affair (In May 10th, 1879, a memorandum sent by the Office of Foreign Affairs of Qin)
『琉球一件』は全10冊。廃藩置県に伴う琉球帰属問題について日本と清国でやりとりされた外交文書などを集めたものである。本書はその1冊目。本書の表紙には「明治十二年五月十日 総理衙門照会」とある。廃藩置県の直後、琉球の帰属問題が両国間の懸案となった。明治12(1879)年5月10日、清国総理衙門は、清国駐剳全権公使に任命された宍戸璣(ししどたまき)に対して、覚書を送っており、その覚書を写したものが本書である。内容は、中国と琉球国が数百年間も冊封関係を結んでいることなどで、中国語で書かれている。(2017年4月7日更新）
Ryukyu Ikken is a set of ten printed documents. It is a collection of the diplomatic correspondence between Japan and Qing (China) concerning the Japanese annexation of Ryukyu as the Prefecture of Okinawa. This is the first volume. On the book cover, there is " May 10th, 1879, a memorandum sent by the Office of Foreign Affairs of Qing". Right after the establishment of prefectures in place of feudal domains, the Japanese annexation of Ryukyu became a political issue between Japan and Qing. In May 10th, 1879, the Office of Foreign Affairs of Qing sent a memorandum to Shishido Tamaki who was appointed to the minister plenipotentiary posted in Qing, and this book is a copy of that memorandum. It explains in Chinese that Ryukyu had a Sakuho relationship (an investiture) with China for the last hundred years. (Updated on November 4, 2022)
