林政八書 / Eight Writings on Forestry Management

A printed book of Rinsei Hassho. Reprinted by Shimabukuro Gen'ichirō and issued by Okinawa Kyōdo Kyōkai in December 1934. They corrected and reprinted the wood printed Rinsei Hassho which was edited by Ishizawa Hyōgo and was issued by Okinawa prefecture in December 1885. Rinsei hassho are the writings on forestry administration of Shuri Ōfu. It was compiled seven regulations regarding a timber land, which Sai On had promulgated, and an instruction related to forest, which had been ordered in 1869. It is generally considered that Sai On was the author of them. In this book, the importance of forest is explained and there is a description of growth and preservation of forests. Eight works are collected in this book. They are; Somayama Hōshiki-chō, Yama Bugyō Kimo-Chō, Somayama Hōshiki Shitsugi, Jumoku Hashoku Hōhō, Somayama Sōkei ni tsukite Jōjō, Yama Bugyōjo Kimo-chō Sitsugi, Yama Bugyō Kōji-chō and Osashizu Hikae. According to the preface by Ōta Chōfu, a chairman of Okinawa Kyōdo Kyōkai, the Okinawa Kyōdo Kyōkai inaugurated a Research Group for Sai On in 1934. And they reprinted and issued the works of Sai On one after another. This book is the one of them. At that time, the Okinawa Development Program was launched, and this book was issued following the idea that we had to learn about the growth and the preservation of forests from Sai On's work.(Updated on November 4, 2022)
