十島図譜 / Illustrated catalogue of Toshima

Toshima Zufu was written by Shirano Ka'un, edited by Toshima village office, issued by Tambisha in June 1933. Under the order from Watanabe Chiaki, a County magistrate of Kagoshima prefecture, Shirano researched Toshima village of Kawabe county and reported the result of survey in writing Shichitō Mondō・Toshima Zufu. Toshima Zufu is a topography of Toshima. The handwriting book by Shirano himself was stored in a warehouse of Kagoshima prefecture, with an epigraph of Watanabe Chiaki, a county magistrate of Kagoshima prefecture. And then, that handwriting was transferred to the Kagoshima prefectural library. This book is a reprinted edition which was copied the original drawings quite well. It is valuable material because there were not many studies about Toshima before Shirano, except for Tashiro Antei or Nakata Naoji. Yanagida Kunio contributed a preface to this reprinted edition. In the end of the book, Nagai Ryūichi wrote "Shirano Ka'un Ō to Toshima mura" which was describing the life of Ka'un Ō and the relationship between the Toshima village and him. There are 3 ownership stamps in this book, which are; "Kagoshima kenritsu toshokan zōsho no in", "Bankokuya(the owner is unknown)" and "Hawley bunko" of Frank Hawley. (Updated on November 4, 2022)
