宮古島旧史 / Old History of Miyako Island

This book is a collection in one volume of Miyakojima kyūshi and "Nankō nikki". Printed book. It was probably issued in 1884. There is a preface of Nishimura Sutezō, a county magistrate of Okinawa, dated in June, 1884. According to the preface, this book was published to show an outline of Miyakojima to government officeholders with issuing the collection in one volume of Miyakojima kyūshi which was an archive of Miyakojima and "Nankō nikki" which was a report of current situation. Miyakojima kiji sitsugi was edited in May, 1748 by Meiyūbun Chōryō who was a Zaiban hissha (a governmental official dispatched from Shuri Ōfu,) he redacted in a mixed writing with both kanji and kana, the materials about Miyakojima which Chūdō uji Oyakeya no Upushu wrote down. It contains the myth and the folklore of Miyakojima related to Chūdō uji which edited by Chūdō uji themself. "Nankō nikki" is the material which Gotō Keishin, a Goyōgakari(a general affairs official) of the Ministry of Home Affairs wrote. It is a record of an inspection tour around Kumejime, Miyakojima and Ishigakijima, conducted by Nishimura Sutezō, a county magistrate of Okinawa prefecture, from May 16th to 30th, 1884.
