鹿児島外四県水産業視察復命書 / Report on an inspection tour of fisheries in Kagoshima and four other prefectures

A copy of a survey report that a prefecture assistant engineer Sasaki Takeharu submitted to then Okinawa Prefecture Governor Ōmi Kyūgorō with the date of June 22, 1914. The survey was conducted by Sasaki in Kagoshima, Miyazaki, Oita, Shizuoka, and Chiba between March 8 and 31 of the same year. It lists: 1) the current situation of support for fishery industry, 2) bonito fishery, 3) reputation of dried bonito produced in Okinawa in the Tokyo market, 4) dried bonito manufacture, 5) longline tuna fishing, 6) longline shark fishing, and 7) miscellaneous. Since surveys like this are not even mentioned in the previous studies, this is a valuable source for academic study. From the fact that the ownership stamp of Kamei appears on the inner title page and that ruled sheets of paper with "Okinawa Kenritsu Suisan Gakkō" (Okinawa Prefecture Fishery School) letterhead are used, the former owner of this book must have been Kamei Koichi, who was the fourth principal of the school between 1912 and 1924.(Updated on August 4, 2015)
