琉球景況概略 / Overview of Ryukyu
明治11(1878)年5月成立。作成者不明。よく見ると「熊本鎮台」の罫紙が使用されており、同所が作成もしくは筆写したものと推測される。記述項目は、地理、駅路、港湾、岬角、山川、城郭、兵営、物産、地質、風俗、居宅、学校などである。熊本鎮台沖縄分遣隊は明治9(1876)年7月に那覇着、明治12(1879)年1月に交代要員として58人の分遣隊が上陸した。本史料はこの間に作成されたものであり、「分遣隊交代ノ節持越スヘキモノ」（12コマ欄外）などの記述から、先発隊が後発隊に琉球の概況を伝える性格のものではないかと思われる。(2015年3月31日更新)
Completed in May, 1878. The author is unknown. This was presumably made/copied by Kumamoto Chindai (The Kumamoto Army Sector) since close inspection confirms that the paper used was the letterhead of the Kumamoto Chindai. The contents are regarding geography, train routes, sea ports, capes, rivers and mountains, castles, troops, products, land and soil, customs, houses, schools, etc. The Troops of the Okinawa Sub-unit in the Kumamoto Sector arrived in Naha in July, 1876, and another 58 substitute members landed in January, 1879. Since there is a note "things to inform the next group" (Image no. 12), this book was presumably completed during this event and used as sort of a memorandum to inform the next group about Ryukyu's situation.(Updated on August 12, 2015)
