琉球通宝新吹御免の戯うた / A gossip tabloid satirizing the issue of Ryūkyū tsūhō

This is a kawaraban, gossip tabloid which satirizes the issue of Ryūkyū tsūhō (currency). Published in 1863. A color-printed sheet of paper. The publisher is Ōfunaya. Since there is no title on the copy itself, the title here was taken from the book Edoki Ryūkyū Mono Shiryō Shūran, written by Yokoyama Manabu. Ryūkyū tsūhō is a type of copper coinage, which started to be minted from 1862. This newspaper was issued to report the news immediately to the general public, which suggests that people had a great interest in this event.
