Nanpo Bunshū is an anthology of Bunshi Genshō(1555-1620). Bunshi Genshō himself edited his writings as Chinese poetry and as Chinese prose composed from 1598 to 1620. Bunshi Genshō was a priest of the Rinzai sect Tōfuku-ji Temple group and his pen name was Nanpo. He was a scholar-priest to whom Shimazu family devoted, he gave a lecture on Confucianism and he also played am important role as a diplomatic advisor. In this book, the diplomatic correspondence going to Ming, Ryukyu, Luzon and Nambansen, which Bunshi Genshō composed. According to Zōho Kokatsujiban no kenkyu by Kawase Kazuma, a Kokatsujiban(a book printed with old, engraved wooden blocks) which contained a publication data as "Corrected and published at Shijōteramachi in August, 1625" was issued, however, there are not many manuscripts existing, therefore the reprinted edition which was issued in 1649 is generally distributed.
