琉球神道記 巻一～巻四 / Account of the Ways of the Gods in Ryukyu, vol. 1-4

A manuscript. Written by Taichū. This is a combined edition of four volumes into one (the fifth volume is separated). At the end of the book are two ownership stamps: Frank Hawley and Ozu Hisatari (Seisō Bunko). Taichū was from Iwaki, Ōshū (present-day Akita Prefecture). On the way to China, Taichū, who was a Buddhist monk of the Jōdo Sect, drifted to Ryukyu in 1603 and stayed there for three years. Ryūkyū Shintōki is a book he wrote during this three year stay. The contents of the first through fourth volume are hardly related to Ryukyu's Shintoism. The fifth volume contains a general description of Ryukyu's Shintoism. (Updated on December 25, 2015)
