中山伝信録 巻一 / Record of transmitted facts of Chūzan, vol. 1

Written by Xu Baoguang (Jpn., Jo Hokō). Published in 1721. Consists of six volumes with a folding book case. There is a ownership stamp of Frank Hawley. There is no title page, but it is probably a Niyūsai print. The first volume describes the two ships of Chinese envoys, the duties of the crew, the routes, voyage logs, the methods of measuring time, the methods of reading the wind, devine prophecies from Tenpi (the Goddess of the Sea) in answer to prayers, the mystic formulas recited during the ritual of worshipping the sea god, etc.(Updated on January 8, 2016)
