原忠順宛秀次書簡 / A letter from Hideji to Hara Tadayuki
原忠順より出された礼状に対する返信である。差出人は「秀次」とある。群馬、熊谷の県令をつとめた河瀬秀治(秀次)の可能性があるが、詳細不明。原は、明治14(1881)年沖縄県大書記官を辞任後上京、長年の功績に対し、同年9月従五位に叙せられた。原は叙位後帰郷するが、この書簡によると、同年11月3日に東京を出発し、11月７日帰着したこと、東京を発つ前に祝宴や見送りの場が設けられたこと等が読み取れる。
It is a reply to a thanks letter from Hara Tadayuki. There is a name of "Hideji" as its sender. He is probably Kawase Hideji who was appointed to Prefectural Gorvenor of Kumagaya, Gumma, but the detail is unknown. In 1881, Hara went to Tokyo after having resigned a Senior Executive Secretary of Okinawa Prefecture, and in September 1881, Hara was conferred to Jugoi (it means Junior Fifth rank in the Japanese Court rank) for his long-term services. After the conferment, he returned to the home city. According to this letter, Hara left Tokyo in November 3rd and arrived at Saga on November 7th, before moving, a farewell party had been given in his honor.
